Cynthia Chang is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington, Bothell, affiliated with the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) and the Division of Biological Sciences. Her research focuses on plant diversity across multiple ecological scales, integrating field studies, experiments, and computational modeling.
- Ph.D. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Yale University (2011)
- B.S. in Conservation Biology, University of Maryland (2005)
Dr. Chang's work explores the interplay between genetic diversity, ecosystem function, and climate change impacts using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism. Her lab investigates post-disturbance community assembly on Mount St. Helens and applies ecological theory to urban wetland restoration projects.
Key research areas include plant community ecology, biodiversity dynamics, climate resilience, and ecological modeling.
Scientific honors:
- National Science Foundation Math and Biology Postdoctoral Fellow
Current affiliations: Division of Physical Sciences Research, Mechanical Engineering Research (Biomedical Materials), and Laboratories (CSS Labs, Friday Harbor Laboratories).
