Cyma K. Van Petten

Cyma K. Van Petten is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Binghamton University, affiliated with The Linguistics Program. Her research focuses on memory and language processing, employing neuroimaging techniques like event-related potentials (ERP) and studying both healthy and brain-damaged populations.

• Memory: Executive processes in episodic memory, prefrontal cortex contributions, aging-related changes, and interference resolution.
• Language: Context-dependent word meaning, semantic processing during sentence comprehension, spoken word segmentation, and avoiding spurious semantic interpretations.

Her laboratory integrates behavioral analyses with neuroimaging to understand how cognitive processes and brain activity interact. She is currently accepting graduate students for Fall 2024.
