Curt Hagquist

Curt Hagquist is a Visiting Professor at the University of Gothenburg’s Department of Education and Special Education, holding an honorary appointment at The Kids Research Institute Australia. His research focuses on adolescent mental health, epidemiology, Rasch Measurement Theory, and social determinants of health. He obtained his PhD in Social Work from the University of Gothenburg in 1997 and has held roles including Director of the Centre for Research on Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CFBUPH) at Karlstad University (2009–2020).

Dr. Hagquist has led major projects such as the NordForsk-funded YoungEqual initiative (2023–2026), examining pandemic impacts on youth. He is a key member of international organizations like the HBSC study coordinating committee and WHO’s Technical Advisory Group on pandemic mental health. Teaching focuses on Rasch Measurement Theory, and he has supervised seven completed PhD students.

His work emphasizes health inequities and adolescent well-being, with recent publications addressing screen time effects, eczema educational impacts, and pandemic-related mental health disparities. He has held visiting scholar positions at Murdoch University and Telethon Institute in Australia, and contributed to national health policy through roles at Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare.
