Csaba Dupcsik

Csaba Dupcsik is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Károli Gáspár Reformed University. He previously served as a senior research fellow at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Sociological Research Institute (now HUN-REN Social Science Research Center, Institute of Sociology). His academic career spans over two decades with significant contributions to sociology, particularly in specialized areas of Hungarian sociological thought.

Dupcsik's research interests primarily focus on the sociology of knowledge and science, postcolonial studies, the history of Roma studies, and family sociology. His work demonstrates a consistent engagement with questions of ethnic representation, social integration, and the historical development of sociological thought in Hungary. He has made substantial contributions to understanding the construction of ethnic identities, particularly regarding Roma communities in Hungary, and has examined family structures and gender roles within Hungarian society.

His publication record reveals a strong focus on Roma studies, with numerous monographs and articles examining the historical representation of Roma communities in Hungarian academic and popular discourse. More recently, his work has expanded to include analyses of memory politics, recognition theory, and the sociology of everyday life. He served as editor-in-chief of socio.hu (2011-2014) and continued as an editor until 2024, significantly contributing to sociological discourse in Hungary.

His academic activities extend to doctoral education, where he has served as an opponent for numerous doctoral defenses, examining topics ranging from relativism in the sociology of scientific knowledge to urban identity and evolutionary theories in contemporary sociology. His engagement with international scholarship is evident through his Vienna fellowship and multilingual publication record.
