Professor Crystal Pletka serves as an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences within Rutgers University's School of Arts and Sciences, where she focuses on undergraduate and graduate instruction in earth sciences disciplines.
Her research expertise spans Paleontology, Biostratigraphy, Sedimentology, and Stratigraphy—interconnected fields critical for reconstructing Earth's geological history. Paleontology examines fossil records to understand evolutionary processes, while Biostratigraphy utilizes biological markers to correlate rock layers across temporal and spatial scales. Sedimentology investigates depositional processes of particulate matter, and Stratigraphy analyzes layered rock sequences to interpret environmental changes and resource distribution throughout geological time.
Professor Pletka maintains an active teaching presence with her office located in Wright Labs Room 239B, supporting Rutgers' geoscience education mission through curriculum development and student mentorship in earth system sciences.
