Crystal N. Feimster is an Associate Professor at Yale University with joint appointments in the Department of Black Studies, Department of History, and affiliations with American Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. Born in North Carolina, she teaches courses on African American history, women's history, and the American South, with popular classes like 'The Long Civil Rights Movement' and 'Critical Race Theory.'

Her research interrogates intersections of race, gender, and violence, particularly focusing on sexual trauma during the Civil War era. Key publications include Southern Horrors (2009), winner of the W.E.B. Du Bois Book Prize, and the forthcoming Truth Be Told (Oxford, 2025). Her article on Civil War rape in the Kentucky Historical Society Register (2019) earned the Collins Award.
