Cristobal Cea S. is a Chilean artist and educator affiliated with Tufts University's School of the Museum of Fine Arts (SMFA) as a Professor of the Practice. His work interrogates the intersection of digital media, history, and memory, using 3D animation and archival materials to reimagine forgotten or marginalized narratives.
- Education: While not explicitly stated, his practice evolved from traditional painting to digital media, informed by his MFA and early engagement with computing.
Notable projects include Ghosts of Concordia (2016), which reanimates news footage of floods through digital media, and Stability (2015), exploring camera stabilization technologies as metaphors for disembodied witnessing. His AntesDelOlvido (2019/21) and America Imaginaria (2024) series further dissect the persistence of historical trauma and the politics of digital spectatorship.
Scientific awards include the Fulbright Fellowship, Goethe Institut 18O Grant, MAVI Emerging Art Award, UC Artistic Research Grant, and RISD Bridge Academic Research Grant. His work has been exhibited globally at institutions like Ars Electronica, National Museum of Fine Arts (Chile), and Microscope Gallery (NY), with residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo.
