Cristine Smoczer is an Assistant Professor at the School of Dentistry, University of Detroit Mercy. She joined the faculty in 2016 and teaches biochemistry, genetics, and nutrition in Biomedical Science courses to first-year dental students, while also facilitating seminars for second- and fourth-year Evidence-Based Dentistry courses.
- Education: Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Windsor, Canada; M.D. and M.S. in Cellular Biology from Romanian institutions.
Research interests focus on the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of dental materials, stem cell differentiation, and oxidative stress in oral health. Her work explores the impact of aging on periodontal ligament fibroblasts and the effects of antioxidants and biomaterials on cellular processes.
Publications highlight her contributions to dental materials science, developmental biology, and aging-related cellular mechanisms. Key themes include biocompatibility, gene regulation in embryogenesis, and oxidative stress in oral environments.
