Cristina Santos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Brock University. Her research focuses on intersectional feminist perspectives in gender studies, trauma, and cultural analysis, with a particular interest in the representation of monstrous women, female adolescence, and testimonial narratives. She has authored influential works such as Unbecoming Female Monsters (2016) and Untaming Girlhoods (2023), and leads an SSHRC-funded project on Argentinian dictatorship testimonial art. Courses taught include Witches, Vampires and Virgins and Feminist Thought.
Education: PhD (2001), MA (1996), and BA (1995) in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Toronto, with studies at the Universidad de Granada, Spain.
Research explores themes like gendered monstrosity, identity formation in adolescence, and political trauma. Recent publications analyze horror narratives, border feminism, and historical figures such as La Llorona. Her work bridges literary analysis with social activism through community outreach programs like the Im/migrant and Community Outreach Internship.
Professional activities include co-founding the Diaspora Inter-Crossings Speaker Series and podcast contributions on identity and trauma. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates postcolonial studies, feminist theory, and cultural studies to address marginalized voices.
