Cristina Sanchez Castañeda

Cristina Sanchez Castañeda is an Associate Professor at the University of Barcelona's Faculty of Psychology, affiliated with the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology. She holds a Doctorate in Medicine (Neuroscience) from the University of Barcelona and specialized training in neuropsychology. Her roles include serving on the Executive Board of the UB Neuroscience Institute (UBNeuro) and as a clinical neuropsychologist at Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge.

Her academic training includes a Bachelor's in Psychology (UB, 2000), European PhD in Medicine (2009), Master's in Neuropsychology (UAB, 2005), and DEA in Neuroscience (UB, 2006). She has held postdoctoral positions in Italy (Santa Lucia Foundation) and the UK through Marie Curie Fellowships.

Research focuses on neuropsychology, neuroimaging, and cognitive interventions in neurodegenerative diseases and obesity. Key projects include the TOuCH study (executive function training in obesity) and neuroimaging studies of Huntington disease. She has secured grants from the European Commission, Spanish Ministry of Economy, and La Marató de TV3 Foundation.

Awards include the Marie Curie Fellowship and the Maria de Maetzu Excellence Award. She advises master's theses on neuropsychological topics and teaches courses in human neuropsychology, neurobiology, and clinical psychology.

Clinical work spans neuropsychological assessment in neurology patients, including roles at Hospital Bellvitge and the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. She contributes to interprofessional teams at the UBNeuro Institute and Sant Joan de Déu Research Foundation.
