Dr. Cristina Giordano is an Associate Professor in Chemistry at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), part of the School of Physical and Chemical Sciences. She leads the Nanostructures Design and Shaping Group (ND&S), focusing on sustainable nanomaterial design for energy, catalysis, and environmental applications. Her academic journey includes a PhD in Physical Chemistry (2005, University of Palermo), Habilitation (2015, Potsdam University), and roles as Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute (2008–2014) and Privatdozent at TU Berlin (2015).
Research Interests: Giordano’s work centers on metallic ceramics, advanced nanomaterial synthesis, and catalysis. Key projects include designing stable transition metal nitrides/carbides for CO₂ reduction and biomass valorization. Her group emphasizes scalability and sustainability, bridging theoretical and applied nanoscience.
Publications & Awards: With ~60 publications (including in Angewandte Chemie and JACS), her work highlights innovations like WC nanodispersions and HfN electrocatalysts. Awards include the Zsigmondy Stipendium (2011) and Royal Society of Chemistry Fellowship (2022).
Advising & Collaboration: Supervised 15+ postdocs and 10 PhD students, fostering international collaborations in nanomaterials and energy. Active in grants (EPSRC, RSC) and editorial roles (Scientific Reports, Materials Today Nano).
Labs & Teams: Part of QMUL’s Centre for Chemical Research and Material Research Institute, advancing functional nanocomposites and green energy solutions.
