Cristina Gandini

Cristina Gandini is a Lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Brest, affiliated with the Breton and Celtic Research Center (CRBC, EA 4451). Her research focuses on the archaeology of territories from the Iron Age to the early High Middle Ages, with particular expertise in population dynamics, rural housing forms, land use, and agricultural and craft production (especially iron metallurgy).

Her primary research interests include:

• Archaeology of territories from the Iron Age to the early High Middle Ages
• Population dynamics and human occupation patterns
• Rural housing forms and settlement hierarchies
• Land use and exploitation methods, including human/environment interactions
• Field archaeology methods including excavation, surveys, and geophysical prospecting
• Spatial analysis (GIS) and multivariate statistical analyses applied to archaeological data

Gandini's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on Roman Gaul, particularly the territories of the Bituriges Cubi and Osismes. Her work shows consistent interest in rural settlement patterns, religious transformations in the late antique period, and the application of spatial analysis techniques to archaeological data. She has particular expertise in iron metallurgy studies in Western Brittany.

Her scientific recognition includes being selected as 'Book of the Month' in February 2009 by the 'Archéolgéographie' team led by Gérard Chouquer (CNRS-UMR 7041) for her work 'Des campagnes gauloises aux campagnes de l'Antiquité tardive'.

Gandini actively supervises postdoctoral researchers, serves on thesis committees as rapporteur and president, and teaches courses ranging from undergraduate to master's level in History, Art History, Archaeology, and Heritage programs. She is involved in multiple research projects related to archaeology and metallurgy in Brittany and serves on regional archaeological research committees including the CTRA (Commission Territoriale de la Recherche Archéologique) Grand Ouest.
