Cristiane Ida

Cristiane Ida, M.D. is a molecular pathologist and neuropathologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, affiliated with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. She serves as Associate Director for Oncology-Other non-NGS Technologies in the Molecular Technology Laboratory and Laboratory Director of the Peripheral Nerve Lab. Dr. Ida is also actively involved in professional organizations, currently serving as Co-Chair of the Society of Neuro-Oncology (2024-2026) and Committee Member of the Neuropathology Committee at the College of American Pathologists.

Her educational background includes an MD from Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil (2003), followed by residency in Anatomic Pathology at the same institution. She completed multiple fellowships at Mayo Clinic, including Residency in Anatomic Pathology-Neuropathology (2014), Fellowship in Neuropathology (2014), and Fellowship in Molecular Genetic Pathology (2016). She is board certified in Anatomic Pathology, Neuropathology, and Pathology-Molecular Genetic by the American Board of Pathology.

Dr. Ida's research focuses on brain tumor genetics, neuro-oncology, and molecular pathology, with particular expertise in neuro-oncology genetics and genetic testing. Her clinical work centers on molecular genetics of brain tumors, performing clinical genetic tests, and developing novel techniques for genetic testing of brain tumors. Her recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on molecular profiling of gliomas, particularly examining genetic mutations like TERT promoter, H3 variants, FGFR1 fusions, and EGFR transcript variants in various brain tumor types. Her work spans both adult and pediatric populations and addresses diagnostic challenges in neuro-oncology.

Among her notable achievements are the 2023 Editorial Scholar award from The Society for Neuro-Oncology and an Honorable Mention at the AANP Annual Meeting in 2011. She maintains active membership in numerous professional organizations including the Society for Neuro-Oncology, American Association of Neuropathologists, Cancer Genomics Consortium, and Association for Molecular Pathology.

As an educator and mentor, Dr. Ida provides guidance to trainees and serves as Co-Course Director for the American Association of Neuropathologists.
