Cristiana Larizza is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Pavia, Italy. She has been with the university since 1990, starting as a Graduate Technician, then becoming a Researcher (1992-2015), and achieving the rank of Associate Professor in 2015. She teaches courses including Fundamentals of Computer Science and Telemedicine, serves as President of the Tutor Committee for the Faculty of Engineering, and is a member of the Medical Informatics Lab.
Education:
- PhD in Bioengineering, University of Pavia (1989)
- Laurea in Electronic Engineering, University of Pavia, Italy (1983)
Research Interests: Her work centers on Text Mining, Temporal Data Abstraction, Telemedicine Systems, Intelligent Data Analysis, and Biomedical Data Mining with strong emphasis on Translational Research. She develops methodologies for temporal abstraction in medical data, applies text mining to clinical narratives, designs telemedicine architectures for chronic disease management, and creates intelligent data analysis systems specifically for hemodialysis monitoring and diabetes care. Her research bridges computer science with clinical applications to improve healthcare processes.
Research Grants and Projects:
- CNR
- 1989-1993: Technical Manager for "An Intelligent and Distributed Information System for Organ Transplants"
- 1993-1994: Head of "Definition, implementation and testing of IT procedures for healthcare financing system management"
- MIUR-PRIN
- 2000-2001: "Intelligent analysis of data from hemodialysis monitoring sessions"
- 2004-2005: "Dynamic models of gene expression from microarray data: clustering techniques and regulatory networks"
- 2004-2006: Scientific Coordinator for "Intelligent analysis of hemodialysis monitoring data for care process improvement"
- EU
- 1996-1999: "Telematic management of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus"
- 2000-2002: "Multi-access services for telematic management of diabetes mellitus"
Academic Leadership: She serves on the Board of the PhD program in Bioengineering and Bioinformatics (2012-today) and the Specialty School of Health Statistics and Biometrics (2017-today), previously serving on the Scientific Board of the Biblioteca unificata della Scienza e della Tecnica (2007-2012).
Labs and Teams: As a core member of the Medical Informatics Lab (LabMedInfo) and founder of the academic spin-off Biomeris (2011-today), she leads initiatives in medical informatics applications and commercialization of research成果.
