Cristen Hamilton is a Lecturer at Southern Methodist University (SMU). She holds a Ph.D. in Humanities (Studies in Literature) from The University of Texas at Dallas, an M.A. in English from the University of Dallas, and a B.A. in English with a Creative Writing specialization from SMU. Her research focuses on American and British short stories, literary theory, digital humanities, and young adult literature.
Her dissertation, The Role of Space, Money, and Travel in O. Henry’s New York Stories, argues O. Henry advocated for early 20th-century women’s rights through his narratives. She teaches courses like DISC 1313: Female Voices for Change, emphasizing women’s rights through diverse genres. Cristen actively engages in academic communities, presenting at conferences and co-hosting a book club for Fresh Fiction, an organization promoting literacy through author events and online engagement.
Her publications include analyses of short story techniques and historical romance genres, blending literary criticism with cultural contexts.
