معرفی
Professor Crawford Revie is a Professor of Data Analytics in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at the University of Strathclyde's Faculty of Science. He holds a joint position as Senior Expert: Early Warning Information Systems at the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) since 2023, and has been an Adjunct Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology at the University Prince Edward Island since 2008. His research spans the critical intersection of informatics, data science, and life sciences with significant applications in global health and sustainable food systems.
Professor Revie's research focuses on data-driven models of disease and host-parasite dynamics in both human and animal populations. His work in Canada centered on fish health and sustainable salmon aquaculture, where his research group's work on sea lice modeling is widely acknowledged as world leading. Currently, he is developing mobile technology solutions for differential disease diagnostic support in rural communities in low- and middle-income countries using domain-agnostic design approaches based on machine learning and semantic models. His expertise in passive (or syndromic) surveillance of disease represents a significant contribution to public health monitoring systems.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on aquaculture epidemiology, particularly sea lice infestation in salmon populations, combining ecological data analysis with practical applications for sustainable fisheries management. He also makes significant contributions to veterinary epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance research, and the application of data science to marine biology and shellfish health, reflecting his interdisciplinary approach to solving complex biological problems through informatics.
Scientific Recognition:
- Held a prestigious Canada Research Chair in Population Health: Epi-Informatics
- World-leading contributions to sea lice modeling research
- Impact on European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery guidelines that reduced sight loss for cataract surgery patients
Professor Revie has secured significant research funding through projects including Sea lice dispersal models, KTP with Rico Developments Ltd, the D3F - Differential Disease Diagnosis Framework, and research on climate change impacts on pests and diseases. He has supervised multiple graduate students and collaborates extensively across disciplinary boundaries. As part of the Human Centric AI Research Group at Strathclyde, he leads initiatives that bridge computer science with practical applications in health and environmental sustainability, while his FAO position allows him to translate research into global policy impact.
