Craig Newsam

Craig Newsam is an Associate Professor and Neurological Curriculum Coordinator in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Mount Saint Mary’s University. With over 30 years of experience, he specializes in neurological physical therapy across clinical, academic, research, and industry roles.

• Professional Credentials: DPT (University of Southern California), MPT (USC), BA Psychology (Hofstra University)

Research focuses on spinal cord injury biomechanics, gait analysis, and bionic mobility technologies. His career includes leadership at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center's Pathokinesiology Laboratory (under Dr. Jacquelin Perry), where he published >20 manuscripts on upper extremity function and gait. He also served as a clinical training specialist for robotic exoskeleton manufacturers.

Teaching responsibilities include advanced neurological courses such as Prosthetics/Orthotics, Pathology/Pharmacology, and Patient/Client Management for Neurological Conditions. He developed flipped-classroom models and hybrid modalities courses.

Leadership roles include Clinical Advisor for Consumer Education and Board Member of Bridging Bionics Foundation, promoting exoskeleton technology adoption.
