معرفی
Craig Michie is a Reader in Electronics and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. He serves as Course Advisor for the fourth and fifth years of the EEE program. His academic journey began with a BSc and PhD from the University of Glasgow, followed by industry experience before returning to academia in 2006.
His research centers on wireless sensor networks with a strong focus on animal health monitoring and precision livestock farming. He co-founded SilentHerdsman Ltd., a spin-out company developing wearable collars for cattle that monitor behavior and optimize breeding and milk production. His work integrates sensor data, AI, and decision support systems.
Recent publications highlight interdisciplinary research in environmental monitoring (urban CO2 modeling), AI-driven animal tracking, neural networks for image and signal processing, and radar-based behavior classification. These reflect a trend toward data-driven, intelligent systems in agriculture and environmental science.
- Finalist in Herald Higher Education Awards - Outstanding Business Engagement in Universities (2022)
- Innovate UK KTP Engineering Excellence Award 2021
Craig Michie is actively involved in multiple research projects, including UKRI and EPSRC-funded initiatives in AI for agri-food systems and remote species assessment. He has supervised research students and contributed to knowledge transfer through industry collaborations and public engagement. His work bridges engineering, agriculture, and environmental science.
He is affiliated with research teams working on the GEMINOA project for air quality monitoring and contributes to AI in animal science through invited talks and workshops. His lab focuses on sensor development and data analytics for real-world applications in sustainability and animal welfare.
