Craig M. Crews is the John C. Malone Professor of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale University, with joint appointments in Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Management. His research focuses on chemical genetics and targeted protein degradation, pioneering PROTAC technology to control intracellular protein levels. Crews co-founded Proteolix (acquired by Onyx Pharmaceuticals) and Arvinas, translating research into therapies like Kyprolis for multiple myeloma.
Education: B.A. in Chemistry (University of Virginia, 1986), Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Harvard University, 1992). He has held faculty roles at Yale since 1995.
Research interests span chemical biology, cancer therapeutics, and drug development. His lab develops small molecules to target 'undruggable' proteins, with emphasis on PROTACs and PhosTACs. Recent work includes cancer-selective RIPTACs and tau protein dephosphorylation strategies.
Publications highlight advancements in protein degradation mechanisms, including E3 ligase recruitment and therapeutic applications. His work bridges academia and industry, driving innovation in precision medicine.
Awards include the 2025 Passano Award, 2024 IUPAC-Richter Prize, and 2021 Scheele Prize. Crews serves on editorial boards, including Cell Chemical Biology, and holds leadership roles in translational research initiatives.
