Craig Laufer is a Professor of Biology and Co-Chair of the Department of Biology at Hood College. He holds office in Hodson Science and Technology Center, Room 160, and teaches undergraduate microbiology, graduate protein biochemistry, and an honors seminar titled Plagues and Peoples.
- Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry (Kent State University, 1984); B.S. in Biochemistry and Zoology (University of Maryland, 1979).
- Research Focus: Engineering enzymes for lignocellulosic biomass conversion to biofuels, supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in collaboration with Atlantic Biomass LLC.
Laufer’s work bridges bacterial genetics, molecular biology, and sustainable energy applications. His lab explores enzyme recyclability in biomass processing, aiming to optimize biofuel production efficiency.
