Craig Burnside is the Mary Grace Wilson Distinguished Professor of Economics at Duke University and a Research Professor at the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow. He has held prior academic positions at the University of Virginia, University of Pittsburgh, and Queen's University. His research focuses on macroeconomics, international finance, currency markets, government finance, and the impact of foreign aid. Burnside has received fellowships from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the National Science Foundation, and was a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution (1998-99).
He serves as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and has editorial roles at journals including the American Economic Review and the Canadian Journal of Economics. His academic qualifications include a PhD from Northwestern University (1991) and a BA from the University of British Columbia (1985).
Burnside's research spans currency speculation strategies, business cycles, and fiscal sustainability post-currency crises. Notable works include analyses of carry trades, housing market dynamics, and the fiscal implications of twin crises. His awards include recognition for contributions to empirical asset pricing and international macroeconomics.
