Courtney von Hippel is an Associate Professor in the School of Psychology at the University of Queensland. She holds affiliations with the Centre for Research in Social Psychology (CRiSP) and the Centre for Business and Organisational Psychology within the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Behavioural Sciences. Her research focuses on applied social psychology, particularly stereotype threat and implicit attitudes, examining their real-world implications in workplaces and marginalized populations such as older employees, healthcare workers, and individuals with mental health challenges. She has supervised numerous PhD students, contributing to topics like stereotype threat in male-dominated professions and burnout prevention in healthcare. Her work integrates theoretical insights with practical applications to address discrimination and stigma in professional settings.
Education: Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy from Ohio State University.
Research interests include stereotyping, prejudice, and implicit attitudes, with a focus on how these dynamics affect workplace outcomes and well-being. She has secured grants such as the ARC Linkage Project for leveraging lived experience to prevent healthcare worker burnout and ARC Discovery Projects on stereotype threat among older employees.
Her publications span over 60 journal articles and book chapters, addressing topics like age-based stereotype threat, stigma in healthcare, and implicit identification in drug use.
