Courtney Szto

Courtney Szto is an Associate Professor in Physical Cultures and Intersectional Justice at Queen's University. She holds a PhD from Simon Fraser University, MSc from University of Toronto, and BHK from University of British Columbia.

Szto's research explores the relationship between physical cultures and intersectional justice, examining how racism, sexism, ableism, and environmental issues manifest in sport. Her award-winning book 'Changing on the Fly: Hockey through the voices of South Asian Canadians' examines hockey's multicultural dimensions.

Current projects investigate how historically marginalized groups create community spaces through outdoor activities, bicycle waste streams, and gender equity in hockey. Szto's documentary 'Revolutions' won Best Canadian Short Documentary at the BC Environmental Film Festival for its examination of bicycle waste.

She teaches courses on socio-cultural dimensions of sport, race in physical activity, and sport-environment relationships.
