Courtney Moffet-Bateau is a Visiting Researcher at Wayne State University’s African American Studies department within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her work bridges literary studies, critical race theory, and global Black studies, focusing on Black creative writing, diasporic reader reception aesthetics, and philosophies of race. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bremen (Germany), an M.A. from Westfälische Wilhelms University of Münster, and a B.A. from Pitzer College.

Her research explores Black survival strategies through art, spirituality, and resistance, alongside critiques of colorblindness and institutional racism. Notable awards include the Konrad Adenauer Foundation doctoral scholarship (2016–22) and the 2015 University of Duisburg-Essen Teaching Award for her project on race in 'postracial' America.
Publications span interdisciplinary topics like cultural wars in academia, migration narratives, and Black literary aesthetics. She previously served as Diversity Liaison to the Fulbright Program in Europe, advising 23 countries on diversity initiatives.
