Courtney Hoffman is an Academic Professional for Undergraduate Research Writing at Georgia Tech's School of Literature, Media, and Communication (LMC), part of the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. She teaches research proposal and thesis writing courses and supports the Undergraduate Research Option Program (UROP). Her research focuses on 18th-century literature, epistolary forms, and social justice in writing pedagogy.
Education: PhD in English (University of Georgia, 2017), MA in English (Georgetown University, 2012), MA (UNC Chapel Hill, 2004), BA (Gettysburg College, 2002).
Research interests include affect theory, 18th-century British literature, and the role of writing in technical communication. Current projects include studies on 18th-century science texts in first-year composition and midwifery manuals as cultural artifacts. She has published on violent masculinity in Nick Dear’s Frankenstein and collaborates on digital humanities projects, including AI-driven data visualization tools.
Awards include the Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellowship. She has advised courses on biomedical ethics and Harry Potter’s material culture, emphasizing inclusive pedagogy. Future projects include a digital archive of 18th-century women’s correspondence.
