Dr. Costanza Porro is a Lecturer in Political Philosophy at Lancaster University's Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. She concurrently holds a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship (2022–present) at the University of Manchester. Previously, she was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Philosophy at the University of Hamburg. Her academic journey includes a PhD from the Dickson Poon School of Law at King's College London, an MA in Philosophy from King's, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Pavia.
Her research bridges political, moral, legal, and feminist philosophy, with a core focus on equality. Key themes include the treatment of individuals in penal systems, feminist critiques of vulnerability, and the role of care in egalitarian societies. Current projects explore how societal care structures can uphold equality. She teaches 'Moral, Legal and Political Philosophy' (PPR 308) during the Lent Term 2024.
Her scholarly outputs span environmental ethics, dignity theory, and penal philosophy, with recent work emphasizing intersectional approaches to equality. She leads the project 'Caring among equals: the role of vulnerability and care in an egalitarian society' (2023–2025), funded by the British Academy Fellowship.
