Corrine Sackett

Corrine Sackett, Ph.D., LMFT is a Professor of Counselor Education at Clemson University's College of Education. She trains master’s-level clinical mental health and school counselors through the Department of Education and Human Development, preparing them for roles in agencies, hospitals, and schools.

Dr. Sackett's research focuses on client perspectives in counseling, with emphasis on improving engagement and outcomes through qualitative exploration of meaningful experiences. She employs innovative methods like photovoice and music listening to address diverse topics including:

• Racial identity and privilege
• Therapeutic alliance dynamics
• Mental health disparities
• Family counseling integration
• Cultural competence in therapy
• Substance abuse treatment

Her recent work explores the intersection of mental health advocacy and creative counseling interventions, particularly through visual methodologies and narrative approaches.

Current research funding includes:

• Co-PI on National Board of Certified Counselors project: Suicidology in Black men and boys
• Principal Investigator on SAMHSA grant: Addiction-focused counseling curriculum with Prisma Health
• Co-investigator on Clemson Rural Health initiative: Mobile mental health services with counselors-in-training
• Co-investigator on U.S. Department of Education grant: Counselor diversity in high-needs schools

Dr. Sackett also directs Clemson's embedded counseling program, which integrates counselors-in-training into community services.
