Coroș Maria

Dr. Maria Coroș is a Senior Researcher (R3) at the National Institute for Research and Development of Isotopic and Molecular Technologies (INCDTIM) in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, working in the Department of Materials, Energy and Advanced Technologies within the Porous Materials and Carbon Nanostructures research group. Her office is located in Building A, Room A1.07.

Dr. Coroș received her academic training at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca:

• MSc in Organic Chemistry (2004)
• PhD in Organic Chemistry (2010)

Her research focuses on advanced carbon nanomaterials, particularly graphene and its derivatives. She specializes in the synthesis, functionalization, and application of carbon nanostructures for environmental monitoring, medical diagnostics, and dental applications. Her work bridges chemistry, materials science, and engineering to develop innovative solutions for real-world problems, with expertise spanning graphene research, nanocomposites, electrochemistry, and organic chemistry.

Dr. Coroș leads multiple research projects funded by national programs, demonstrating a clear trend toward practical applications of nanomaterials in healthcare and environmental safety. Her recent work emphasizes sensor development for pesticide detection, cancer diagnosis, and dental materials, with increasing focus on translational research that bridges laboratory findings to commercial applications.

She actively collaborates with academic and research institutions across Romania, including Babeș-Bolyai University and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Târgu Mureș, securing significant research funding for projects related to graphene applications. Dr. Coroș is establishing the first official plasma lab at INCDTIM, focusing on cold plasma applications for microorganism inactivation and decontamination, which represents a strategic expansion of her research portfolio into plasma-based nanomaterial synthesis and antimicrobial applications.
