Cormac Henry

Cormac Henry is the Professor of Flute at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). He has served as Principal Flute of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (RLPO) since 2002 and frequently performs as a guest principal flutist with major European orchestras, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich, and Bavarian State Opera Munich. His academic affiliation with RNCM aligns with his extensive performance career and teaching role in advanced flute studies.

• Education: Studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Averil Williams, preceded by training in Dublin and a postgraduate year with Jean-Claude Gérard in Stuttgart.

Performance Career: Highlights include collaborations with the John Wilson Orchestra, world premieres of contemporary works like Kurt Schwertsik’s Atmen, du unsichtbares Gedicht!, and international tours with orchestras under conductors like Mariss Jansons. He actively performs chamber music with ensembles such as the Hebrides Ensemble, Ensemble Arlequin, and Fusion wind quintet.

Additional Activities: Cormac participates in teaching and coaching at the Hindemith Institute in Blonay, Switzerland, during the International Summer Course for Wind Chamber Music. He is also an avid golfer and rugby supporter.
