Corinne Spickett is a Professor in the School of Biosciences at Aston University, part of the College of Health and Life Sciences. She specializes in Redox Biology, Oxidative Stress, and lipidomics, with a focus on oxidized phospholipids and protein oxidation. Her research spans analytical methods for lipid analysis and their roles in disease mechanisms, including Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disorders, and cancer.
She holds a DPhil in Biochemistry from Oxford University (1990) and has extensive academic experience, including 17 years at the University of Strathclyde. She leads the Horizon 2020 MASSTRPLAN project and collaborates in international networks like COST Action CA19105. Teaching roles include module leadership in Molecular Pathology and Analytical Biochemistry at Aston.
Her research interests emphasize the structure-function relationships of protein-lipid adducts and lipid oxidation’s impact on cellular signaling. Over 20 PhD students have graduated under her supervision, and she actively mentors placement and final-year students.
Key projects include lipidomic analysis in chronic diseases and the development of mass spectrometry methods for oxylipin detection. She also investigates hydrogen sulfide’s therapeutic potential in vascular health and redox regulation of tumor suppressors like PTEN.
