Corinne Fowler is a Professor of Colonialism and Heritage at the University of Leicester's Department of Museum Studies. Her research focuses on colonial history, decolonization, and the British countryside's ties to Empire. She co-authored the landmark National Trust colonialism and slavery audit (2020), which won the Museums and Heritage Special Recognition Award in 2022. Her recent book Our Island Stories (2024) explores Britain’s rural colonial legacies through guided walks. She leads projects like the Rural Racism Project and Colonial Countryside initiative, which involve community engagement with historical sites. Fowler regularly advises institutions on decolonizing heritage narratives and frequently appears in media including BBC Radio and The Guardian.
Her academic work spans colonial links of literary house museums, digital racism in rural contexts, and postcolonial reinterpretations of cultural landmarks. She collaborates with artists like Ingrid Pollard and has published over 30 articles on topics ranging from transatlantic slavery to Manchester’s diaspora literature.
