Corey Miles is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Africana Studies at Tulane University, specializing in Black cultural production and carceral systems. His research examines how Black aesthetics challenge structural violence through trap music and temporal resistance strategies.
Miles' innovative scholarship develops concepts like 'emotional epistemology' to analyze how racialized emotions in southern hip-hop form resistance strategies. His book 'Vibe: The Sound and Feeling of Black Life in the American South' (2023) was a C. Wright Mills Award finalist.
Current projects investigate Black temporal resistance to carceral time structures. Miles teaches courses on hip-hop culture, race/ethnicity, and Black cultural studies, emphasizing experiential learning and community engagement.
