Dr. Corey Lee Wrenn is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Kent's School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR), and Co-Director of the Centre for the Study of Social and Political Movements. She holds a PhD in Sociology from Colorado State University (2016). Her expertise focuses on social movements, human-nonhuman relations, and vegan studies. Key roles include: Book Review Editor for Society & Animals; Editor for The Sociological Quarterly; Member of The Vegan Society’s Research Advisory Committee; and co-founder of the International Association of Vegan Sociologists (2020).
Research Interests: Explores intersections of animal liberation, ecofeminism, factionalism in social movements, and the Nonprofit Industrial Complex. Prioritizes feminist theory to analyze animal rights mobilization.
Awards:
- Exemplary Diversity Scholar, 2016 (University of Michigan’s National Center for Institutional Diversity)
Publications: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles and three books including Piecemeal Protest: Animal Rights in the Age of Nonprofits (2019) and Animals in Irish Society (2021). Recent work critiques sexism in animal activism and vegan representation in media.
Teaching: Leads undergraduate sociology programs and the postgraduate Social and Political Movements module (SO822).
