Cord Huston is an Associate Professor of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Skills at Saba University School of Medicine. He holds an MD and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (DFAPA). Dr. Huston’s career spans clinical psychiatry, academic leadership, and disaster response. His primary affiliations include Saba University and prior roles at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Education: Alumnus of Saba University School of Medicine.
Research Interests: Focuses on community mental health, crisis intervention, sleep apnea’s psychiatric implications, and disaster psychiatry. His work bridges clinical practice with systemic improvements, such as developing MAT/Suboxone clinics and psychiatric crisis centers. Recent research explores vegetative symptoms’ impact on depression diagnosis, seasonal allergy effects on mood, and compliance in psychiatric patient handovers.

Advising & Grants: Mentored psychiatry residents at the University of Kansas Medical Center, focusing on anxiety treatment, psychopharmacology, and neurology-psychiatry intersections. Led disaster relief efforts in Haiti (2010 earthquake) and post-hurricane recovery in St. Thomas/St. John (2017). Collaborated with WHO clusters and multinational teams during crises.
Labs/Teams: Involved in quality improvement projects at community mental health centers in Kansas, including the state’s first Psychiatric Crisis Intervention Center.
