Consuelo Thiers

Dr. Consuelo Thiers is a Lecturer in International Relations at the School of Social and Political Science, University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on political psychology, foreign policy analysis, and the role of emotions in international conflicts, particularly in Latin American contexts.

Her research integrates psychologically oriented and agent-based approaches to study decision-making in international relations, with emphasis on:

• Foreign policy analysis

• Political leaders’ emotional dynamics
• Latin American foreign policy
• Operational code analysis

Recent publications analyze the emotional drivers of international rivalries, populist leaders’ foreign policies, and pandemic response strategies. She co-founded the Foreign Policy Analysis Research Group at Edinburgh and serves as At-Large Officer of the Foreign Policy Analysis Section at the International Studies Association.
