Constanza Salazar is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at The Cooper Union. Her research focuses on the intersection of art, technology, and cultural critique, examining how artists challenge technocapitalist power structures through embodied practices. She holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University, a Masters in Art History from the University of Guelph, and a BFA and Philosophy degree from the University of Waterloo. Her work explores themes of datafication, gender, race, and sexuality in new media art since the 1990s, with a focus on artists-activists who resist technoscientific oppression.
Her book project, based on her dissertation Embodied Digital Dissent, analyzes how artists transform technologies to serve marginalized communities. She has published in journals like Momus and Afterimage, and presented internationally on topics including speculative realism, posthumanism, and digital curatorial practices.
Salazar’s research bridges art history, science studies, and philosophy, emphasizing the material and ethical dimensions of technological innovation. Her recent work addresses pandemic-era digital curation and the tension between artistic creativity and corporate technological monopolies.
