Professor Constantin Orasan is a Professor of Language and Translation Technologies at the University of Surrey's Centre for Translation Studies, part of the School of Literature and Languages. He is also a Fellow of the Surrey Institute for People-Centred Artificial Intelligence. Previously, he served as Reader in Computational Linguistics at the University of Wolverhampton and Deputy Head of their Research Group in Computational Linguistics. His expertise spans Natural Language Processing (NLP), translation technologies, sentiment analysis, machine learning, and text simplification.
Education: BSc in Computer Science from Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca, Romania) and a PhD in Computational Linguistics from the University of Wolverhampton.
Research Interests: Focuses on advancing computational linguistics through machine learning and deep learning techniques. Key areas include translation technologies, sentiment analysis, text summarization, and corpus development. He explores practical applications of AI in language processing, particularly in healthcare and legal domains.
Supervision & Teaching: Currently supervises PhD candidates in topics like healthcare translation risks, neurodiverse user interfaces, and legal proceedings with AI. Teaches modules such as TRAM500: Introduction to Computational Thinking for Translators, emphasizing Python programming for translation tasks.
