Dr. Connor Bamford is a Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences and affiliated with the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen's University Belfast. Specializing in virology, his research focuses on RNA viruses, immune system defenses against viral infections, and the development of strategies to combat disease. He holds a PhD in molecular virology from Queen's University Belfast and has held roles including a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Glasgow's MRC Centre for Virus Research and a Wellcome Trust-funded fellowship during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Academic Affiliations: School of Biological Sciences, Institute for Global Food Security
- Research Interests: RNA virus evolution, host immune responses, species-jumping viruses, genomic surveillance
His work integrates virology, immunology, and epidemiology to address global health challenges, with contributions to SARS-CoV-2 surveillance and influenza virus monitoring. Collaborations span One Health initiatives and wastewater-based epidemiology, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to disease prevention.
Key projects include genomic analysis of viral outbreaks, antiviral mechanisms, and the application of wastewater data to predict and mitigate infectious disease spread.
