Conley McMullen is a Professor in the Department of Biology at James Madison University. His research focuses on pollination biology and plant systematics, particularly the conservation of endangered plant species in Virginia, West Virginia, and the Galápagos Islands. He has conducted extensive studies on species such as Boechera serotina, Buckleya distichophylla, and Leavenworthia uniflora, emphasizing pollination experiments and floral ecology. In the Galápagos, he is involved in systematics research on the endemic genus Scalesia, integrating morphological and molecular data.
- Doctorate: University of Maryland
- Master's: James Madison University
- Bachelor's: Eastern Mennonite University
His scholarly contributions include the book Flowering Plants of the Galápagos, published by Cornell University Press. Research trends span pollination networks, reproductive biology, conservation of rare species, and taxonomic studies of Galápagos flora. Recent work addresses hybridization and inter-island floral variation.
- Elizabeth Ann Bartholomew Award (2022)
- Richard and Minnie Windler Award (2020)
McMullen has supervised numerous students and contributed to floristic surveys in Virginia, while also exploring invasive species impacts on pollination networks in the Galápagos. His work bridges field studies, experimental ecology, and systematic revisions.
