Concepcio Moragrega Garcia

Concepcio Moragrega Garcia is a Professor at the University of Girona, affiliated with the Department of Chemical, Agricultural Engineering and Agricultural Technology within the Faculty of Sciences. She is a member of the Plant Pathology Research Group and the Institute of Agro-Food Technology (INTEA), and has been a full professor since 2003. She currently coordinates the Master's in Food Biotechnology (MBTA) and is responsible for the Interuniversity Master’s in Integrated Crop Protection (MI PIC).

Her research focuses on the epidemiology and integrated control of crop diseases, with emphasis on bacterial and fungal diseases of fruit trees. She works on developing prediction models such as BSPcast and XapCAST, studies emerging plant diseases, and evaluates biological control agents and antimicrobial peptides for disease management. Her work bridges academic research with practical applications through collaborations with industry and public administration.

She earned her Degree in Biological Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1989), an Agricultural Technical Engineering degree in Horticulture and Gardening from ESAB (UPC, 1992), and completed her PhD in Biological Sciences at the University of Girona in 1997. Her doctoral thesis focused on the interaction between Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae and pepper, and the activity of phosphonates in disease development.

She has directed multiple undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral theses and has authored or co-authored numerous research articles in international journals and book chapters. She has participated in national and international research projects and has conducted pre- and post-doctoral research at institutions including the Public University of Navarra and INRA in France.

Dr. Moragrega is actively engaged in academic leadership, research innovation, and knowledge transfer in plant health and sustainable agriculture.
