Colm P. Kelleher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences. He is a biophysicist specializing in applying materials science and soft matter physics to cellular and embryonic systems.
Education:
- Ph.D., Physics, New York University (2017)
- M.Sc., Physics, New York University (2014)
- B.Sc., Mathematics & Physics, University College Cork (2008)
His research explores the physical principles governing cellular structures, particularly in mammalian oocytes and early embryos. He integrates non-invasive imaging, biomolecular tools, and physics-based modeling to study phenomena like chromosome segregation and spindle mechanics.
His recent publications focus on microtubule organization, embryo feature quantification via AI, and colloidal phase behavior. These works span biophysics, soft matter physics, and materials science.
Scientific Awards:
- White Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Harvard University (2020)
He actively contributes to academic service, including undergraduate curriculum development, poster judging, and peer review for Physical Review Letters. He co-founded the science communication platform Softbites (2017–2021) and engages in K–12 outreach through Biobus (2010–present).
