Collin Mueller

Collin Mueller, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park, with a courtesy appointment in Health Policy and Management at the School of Public Health. He is affiliated with the Maryland Population Research Center (MPRC). His research focuses on mechanisms shaping gendered racial/ethnic inequalities in organizational and health outcomes across lifecourses, employing mixed-methods approaches including ethnography, qualitative interviews, and longitudinal data analysis. Key areas include healthcare inequality, administrative barriers, and aging populations.

Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from Duke University (2017, 2015), M.Div. from Duke Divinity School (2015), B.A. in Religious Studies from Rice University (2009). His work has been published in journals such as the American Journal of Sociology and funded by the NSF, National Institute of Aging, and others. He teaches courses on social inequality, aging, and research methods.

Advising: Supervises graduate students including Layne Amerikaner and Clayton Buck. Research interests emphasize critical race theory, cumulative disadvantage, and life course perspectives. Current projects explore perceived discrimination trajectories among Black Americans and racialized career pathways in religious institutions.
