Colin Veal

Colin Veal serves as a Senior Lecturer within the School of Health and Social Wellbeing at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), teaching pre-registration children's nursing students and post-registration healthcare professionals across foundational skills, assessment techniques, and high dependency pediatric care modules.

Specializing in Children and Young People's Nursing and Paediatric Critical Care, Veal leverages extensive clinical experience from Bristol Royal Hospital for Children where he progressed to Band 6 critical care nursing. His expertise encompasses pediatric transport medicine through the Wales and West Acute Transport for Children (WATCh) team, covering emergency retrievals across South West England and South Wales. As an active member of the CYP Nurse Academic Network UK, he bridges clinical practice with academic instruction.

Veal's career transitioned from 20 years in clinical roles—including Retrieval team membership, Outreach Team service, and Site Management—to academia in 2020. He initially joined UWE Bristol part-time while continuing WATCh duties before moving to full-time teaching in 2022, maintaining strong connections to pediatric critical care practice through ongoing clinical engagement.
