Colin Ripley is Chair and Professor at the School of Interior Design, Toronto Metropolitan University. He holds a B.Eng. from McMaster University, M.Sc. in theoretical physics (University of Toronto), M.Arch. (Princeton University), and a PhD in Philosophy, Art and Critical Thought (European Graduate School). His research focuses on queer architecture, megaregional urbanism, and sonic architecture, with a critical lens on spatial politics and domesticity.
Ripley’s career includes major awards such as the 2009 Professional Prix de Rome (Architecture) and Governor-General’s Medal (2006). He co-founded RVTR, a design-research firm, and authored/edited works like *The House Is (Not) a Prison* (2025) and *Infra-Eco-Logi-Urbanism* (2015). His publications explore intersections between architecture, queer theory, and environmental systems.
Research interests emphasize queer spatial critique, responsive architectural systems, and Canadian modernism. Key projects include exhibitions at Toronto Metropolitan University and the Venice Biennale, along with collaborations on urban infrastructure and acoustic design.
