Dr. Colin McCarter is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Arts and Science at Nipissing University, holding cross-appointments in Biology/Chemistry and Geography departments. He serves as a Canada Research Chair and Graduate Program Faculty member.
His research focuses on ecohydrological and biogeochemical processes controlling water, nutrients, carbon and contaminant movement in northern landscapes under climate change. Specific interests include peat soil structure governing contaminant flow, novel wetland restoration techniques, and restoration of contaminated peatlands. He actively recruits graduate students for projects on wetland water quality and restoration techniques.
Research examines two complementary themes: 1) Understanding wetlands as regulators of water quality through reactive transport processes, and 2) Developing accelerated wetland restoration methods for ecohydrological functionality and carbon sequestration.
