Clive Palmer

Clive Palmer is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physical Education, Coaching, and the Outdoors at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan), within the School of Health, Social Work, and Sport. His academic career focuses on Physical Education pedagogy, qualitative research methodologies, and outdoor learning. He is recognized as a HEA National Teaching Fellow (2019) and a UKCGE Recognised Research Supervisor, underscoring his expertise in teaching and research supervision.

Palmer’s research interests include the CARE Curriculum in Physical Education, qualitative approaches to sport and education studies, and the intersection of arts-based practices with outdoor and physical education. He has authored/co-authored numerous books and articles, including works on the CARE Curriculum, outdoor learning, and theological perspectives in sports. His work frequently explores themes like teacher training, educational policy, and reflexive research methodologies.

Recent publications highlight his contributions to topics such as Physical Education teacher training strategies in China, reflexive ethnographic frameworks, and the value of values in media ecosystems. He has also engaged with applied research, such as the development of the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) app for midwifery education and studies on mindfulness and wellbeing trails.

In addition to his scholarly work, Palmer has presented at international conferences and contributed to research supervision and education policy discussions. His awards reflect his commitment to enhancing teaching excellence and fostering innovative research practices.
