Dr Clive Lawson is a Lecturer at the Department of Applied Economics, Faculty of Economics, University of Cambridge. He is a Fellow and College Teaching Officer at Girton College, where he teaches statistics, mathematics, and econometrics. His research spans interdisciplinary domains, focusing on Philosophy of Technology, Social Ontology, Methodology of Economics, and Environmental Economics.
His work explores the intersection of technology and society, including books like Technology and Isolation and articles on topics such as Aviation Lock-in and Emissions Trading. His publications emphasize critical realism, institutionalism, and the philosophical underpinnings of economic thought.
Dr Lawson co-founded the Cambridge Social Ontology Group and the Cambridge Realist Workshop, and serves as co-editor of the Cambridge Journal of Economics. His teaching philosophy prioritizes demystifying technical aspects of economics to foster critical understanding.
