Dr. Cliona McGovern serves as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University College Dublin (UCD) School of Medicine. She is also the Head of Subject for Forensic and Legal Medicine, Chair of the School Plagiarism and Academic Integrity Committee, and Deputy Chair of MDC3 and the School Fitness to Practice/Proceed Committee. Dr. McGovern previously directed CAO Admissions at UCD.

Her research focuses on medical law and ethics, with expertise in areas such as suicide, coronial data, and forensic medicine. She is a co-author of the Simpson's Forensic Medicine (Irish version), a key resource in the field.
Dr. McGovern holds prominent roles in ethics and policy, including:

- Member of the Royal Irish Academy's Ethical, Political, Legal, and Philosophical Studies Committee
- Member of the National Rehabilitation Hospital's Research Ethics Committee

In her administrative role, she collaborates with UCD's Programme Directors, Managers, student representatives, and Associate Deans to ensure academic welfare, pastoral care, and student discipline compliance. She also supports recruitment initiatives and degree committee operations.
