Dr. Clifton Oyamot is a Professor and Associate Dean for Academics and Student Success at San Jose State University's College of Social Sciences, Psychology Department. Since 2005, he has served as a faculty member and Department Chair, focusing on student success through strategic enrollment management, inclusive teaching, and enhanced advising.
His research integrates social psychological and personality perspectives, examining social norms' impact on tolerance toward immigrants and sexual minorities, clutter's relation to identity, and power dynamics in interpersonal relationships. His work has appeared in journals like Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and Political Psychology.
He actively involves students in research, with many co-authoring publications and presenting at conferences. He received a Google Research Award for studying personality's influence on online identities and collaborated with the College of Engineering on student success initiatives.
