Professor Cliff Andrew David is an Emeritus Professor of Theoretical Geography at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Christ’s College. He holds academic ranks including Professor (since 1997) and Reader in Theoretical Geography (1991–97). His roles include former Head of the Geography Department (1999–2001), Chair of the School of Physical Sciences (2001–03), and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (2004–). He earned a BA from King’s College London, MA from Northwestern University, PhD and DSc from the University of Bristol.
Research focuses on spatial processes in epidemiology, historical geography of disease, and mathematical modeling of disease spread. Notable works include Atlas of Epidemic Britain (2012) and Infectious Disease Control (2013). Awards include Fellowship of the British Academy (FBA) and Chartered Geographer (CGeog).
Key interests span disease emergence, poliomyelitis geography, and the impact of war on epidemics. He has advised the WHO and CDC, and his research explores refugee health and disease control strategies in displaced populations.
